Tottenham have made headway in negotiations with Middlesbrough for Djed Spence and hope to complete a deal by the time pre-season training starts on Monday, 90min understands.

Spurs have been locked in talks for the wing-back for much of June, though have always been confident of completing a deal.

90min understands the north London club are nearing an agreement with Boro to pay roughly £15m up front for the 21-year-old.

Spence spent the 2021/22 season on loan at Nottingham Forest and played a huge role in helping them achieve promotion from the Championship via the play-offs. Middlesbrough boss Chris Wilder also recently admitted that he expected the England youth international to join Spurs.

Tottenham want to complete three signings by the time Antonio Conte’s non-internationals return for pre-season training at Hotspur Way on Monday – Spence, Everton forward Richarlison, and Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet.
