Barcelona have confirmed that utility man Sergi Roberto has put pen to paper on a new one-year contract extension at Camp Nou.

Roberto, a midfielder by trade but a regular feature at right-back, had entered the final month of his contract and has been on a real rollercoaster of a journey for an extension over the past year, with it often looking as though he would be allowed to walk for free.

However, he has now finally put an end to the speculation, inking a new 12-month deal to commit himself to Barcelona until 2023.

Roberto’s new contract also includes a €400m release clause.

Having joined the Barcelona academy back in 2006, Roberto has gone on to make 316 appearances at the club, the vast majority of which came after his transition to a right-back role in 2016.
