The Goa Football Association (GFA) on Wednesday decided to relegate Youth Club of Manora from the Goa Professional League (GPL) after the club finished at the bottom of the relegation league in 2021-22.

The GFA have been lenient when it came to relegation following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country in March 2020, as they had allowed Sesa Football Academy to continue in the Pro League, despite the club finishing at the bottom of the league in the 2020/21 season.

Sesa for their part made full use of the opportunity handed out to them to finish fifth in the league last season, while Manora unfortunately finished at the bottom of the league. The GFA executive committee which met met at the headquarters in Panaji did not give Manora the same leeway this time around and eventually decided on enforcing relegation.

Manora will not be happy with the decision taken by the GFA executive committee as they had come forward to take part in the Pro League after other clubs had backed out from participating due to financial issues caused by the pandemic.

The GFA’s competition committee are expected to meet soon in order to finalise the calendar for the 2022-23 season and present it to the executive committee for their approval.
