Edin Dzeko has praised Vincent Kompany for the influence he had on Manchester City’s first ever Premier League title-winning team.

The Belgian took the captain’s armband for the 2011/12 campaign and helped the club to their first English crown since 1968, snatching the title from Manchester United with the final kick of the season thanks to Sergio Aguero’s winner against QPR.

Man City have been interviewing players and coaches as part of the ten-year anniversary celebrations of this triumph, and former striker Dzeko revealed why Kompany was the best skipper the could have hoped to have.

“He was a great captain. He was the best captain we could have had at that time because he was a great leader and he was always a positive guy,” Dzeko told City’s official website.

“He just thinks about which is best for the team. Sometimes we used to call him a professor because he was always reading books when we on the coach to away games.
